Marc Hodler was the president of the F.I.S. from 1951 to 1998 and a member of the IOC in Switzerland since 1961, becoming the vice-president in 1993.

Born October 26, 1918 in Berne, Switzerland, Marc Hodler, at the age of 20, was simultaneously selected for the Swiss national alpine skiing team.

As a university student, Marc was a champion in downhill, slalom and combined.

A serious accident while training for the world championships in 1938 in Engelberg put an end to his career as a competitor. However, Marc continued to be active in skisport, turning his attention to technical and administrative activities. From 1939 to 1948, he led the Swiss alpine skiing team, then from 1940 to 1951, became vice-president and head of the alpine skiing section of the national federation and was responsible for alpine competitions at the Winter Games in 1948. Within the F.I.S., he presided over the downhill and slalom committee from 1946 to 1951. In 1949, he entered the F.I.S. Council and became president in 1951.

An all-around sportsman, his activities are varied but always bear the mark of talent. Marc was a university handball champion, played golf (was captain of the Berne Golf Club for 18 years) and tennis. He also enjoyed swimming. Winning three Swiss Championships in Bridge, Marc has presided over the Swiss Bridge Federation since 1944.

Upon completion of his studies at the University of Berne in 1943, he became a lawyer and managed his practice while carrying out his functions as juridical advisor to many different bodies, mainly in the food industry.

A member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Marc became the chairman of their legal committee in 1963.

Marc Hodler was elected to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame in 1981.
